We offer cycles of sessions using different types of heritage for mental wellbeing.
Each cycle has 6 weekly sessions, most times on Zoom or Teams, but sometimes we have requests to have this activity in a local venue.
Sessions have different types of heritage, a building, a site, a practice, a dance, something connected to our groups (we get that 'do you remember....?'), in presentations that are followed by conversations and shared memories.
Each session is scheduled to last one hour, once every week, and we gather loads of information and requests for future sessions.
Local contexts, cultural backgrounds, and (intangible) heritage practices influence how individuals and communities grow and evolve through activities that bring people with similar feelings and experiences together, sometimes in a secure environment, providing access to a like-minded group.
These shared activities and tasks triggers a sense of belonging, which, ultimately, leads to improvements in wellbeing and reduction of feelings of isolation through the making of new connections.
Group activities that bring people together, either from similar backgrounds/experiences or from more diverse backgrounds/experiences supports mental wellbeing and concentration, through
the shared experience of objects, ideas or images, while being able to participate as an interested party and contributor, and contributing to an authentic, purposeful activity, increases oneself value.
We abide by the principles indicated by Unesco that ‘cultural heritage is an expression of human communities through diverse media, experts work to safeguard all manners of heritage: from vast buildings, works of art and folklore, to artefacts, language and landscapes. The shared goal, however, is simple: preserve the past so that future generations might enjoy, benefit and learn from its legacy, working sustainably to meet the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations.
