Welcome to our Braunton Twinning website!

 Chairman Phil Powell

My name is Phil Powell and I am chairman of Braunton Twinning. I have been involved with Twinning since 2001. I am not fluent in French but it is not necessary to speak the language, you can still have a wonderful time. As part of being Chairman I say a few words at our Official Dinners. As I have said my French is not good but after a glass of wine (or 2) I am fluent!!!!! The French attending appreciate my efforts.

We are an active group and meet socially most months of the year to raise monies to help pay for our French friend’s visits. These events include Safari meals, Cocktails at the “Gin Palace’, Local History Walks, Big Breakfasts, Posh Parties, Quiz’s and many more events.

For many years we have taken 2 students from Year 10 at Braunton Academy, who have chosen French as an option, on our visit to Plouescat. They have all gained a fascinating insight into French life and culture.

During the visit we have a challenge which could be anything. In the past we have had tug of war competition, sand castle building, cockle picking, making balloon animals, fly fishing, pitch and putt, can can dancing and all sorts of funny obscure games.

All members have made life long friends with their Breton hosts, some also arrange private visits so they can further enjoy the Breton experience and Culture.

Please contact us and come along to a social event and meet us all.

Kind regards, Phil.

Bienvenue!

Madame la Presidente

Patricia Choquer, Presidente du jumelage de Plouescat

Hello !  A few words from Patricia, Presidente of Plouescat Twinning.....

HISTORIQUE

The Association of Friends of the twin villages of Plouescat and Braunton was registered at Morlaix on 3rd December 1975. We celebrated our Emerald 'Wedding Anniversary' in May 2015 in Braunton, with return festivities in Plouescat in May 2016.

For more than 40 years the friendship between these two small seaside communities has been based on group travel where family, student, sporting, and cultural exchange are promoted and where friendship, good humour and linguistic skill merge .

 ACTIVITES

We organise an annual get together between the two communities, alternating between Devon and Brittany. The stays are inevitably marked by the quality of welcoming family exchanges, and the richness of local trips and events within our respective regions.

FINANCES

To maintain this beautiful history of friendship between the two communities our Twinning Committee have, since 1984, organised an antique and collectables fair in the Halles de Plouescat each summer, and since 2010 a bric a brac/plant fair in the spring.

The funds raised from these two events, together with our municipal contribution, permit the Twinning Committee to sponsor a deserving student from each of our two colleges in Plouescat... so they can perfect their skills in the language of Shakespeare.... !
