Each year at The Royal British Legion Remembrance Day Service held at St. Johns church in Whitchurch, or in neighbouring churches, the names of those from the village who gave their lives in the service of their country in the two World Wars are read. Someone has now come forward to research the men behind the names.
Professor Ian Beckett was born in Whitchurch and is at the School of History, University of Kent. He has kindly offered to compile an illustrated booklet of all these men. His letter requesting information of the Whitchurch War Dead is below as is a sample entry for Captain George Gardner.
