Unity Sports Collective CIC is a community-led organisation supporting children and young people aged 5 to 18 across Hackney and surrounding boroughs through sport, mentoring, and personal development.
We deliver structured football training, after-school programmes, holiday sports camps, and community-based activities designed to keep young people engaged, active, and supported.
Our work focuses on creating safe, inclusive environments where young people can build confidence, develop skills, and access positive opportunities both on and off the pitch.
What We Do
Our activities include:
- Weekly football training sessions
- After-school clubs delivered in partnership with local schools
- Holiday sports camps and youth programmes
- Community futsal tournaments and match fixtures
- 1-to-1 and small group coaching
- Health, wellbeing, and life skills workshops
Sessions take place at community locations including Hackney Downs Park, Hackney Marshes, and local school facilities.
When We Deliver
Sessions run weekly across multiple days, including Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with additional delivery during school holidays.
Supporting Young People
Unity Sports Collective CIC provides more than sport. We offer mentoring and informal support to help young people develop confidence, resilience, and positive life choices.
Through our leadership pathway, young people aged 16+ are supported to develop coaching skills and progress towards recognised training opportunities.
Meet the Founder
Unity Sports Collective CIC is led by Carlos Lerma, Director and Lead Coach.
Carlos has over 14 years’ experience working as a football and physical education coach, supporting children and young people aged 4 to 21. He has delivered coaching programmes across schools and community settings, including a long-standing role at Chestnuts Primary School.
Alongside his coaching work, Carlos is also a semi-professional football player, bringing both practical experience and strong leadership to his work with young people.
His approach focuses on using sport as a tool for development, helping young people build confidence, discipline, and positive futures.
Young people in our community face challenges including exposure to anti-social behaviour, school exclusions, and youth violence.
Unity Sports Collective CIC provides structured, supervised activities during key times such as after school and school holidays, helping to reduce risk and create safe spaces.
Our sessions are delivered by qualified, DBS-checked coaches who follow safeguarding best practice, providing trusted adult support and early intervention where needed.
Impact
Our work has had a positive impact on many young people.
Participants who were previously at risk of exclusion have improved their behaviour and attendance and gone on to support others as peer mentors.
Other young people who initially lacked confidence have developed socially through our sessions and progressed into leadership programmes, working towards becoming qualified coaches.
Partnerships
We have worked with local schools and community organisations to deliver sports and development programmes, including long-term coaching delivery within primary school settings.
