Your club needs you !
“While the Ellesmere Bowling Club is situated in a wonderful location and is steeped in history, there are significant downsides where maintenance is concerned!
The site is part of a Scheduled Ancient Monument and there are strict rules controlling any alterations to the site. The Club does not have a free hand to do as it wants.
Overall the site is around 8,000 square metres which is larger than a standard football pitch and equal to about 32 doubles tennis courts. Taken together the greens are 2,500 square metres. The remainder of the site is a mixture of paths, buildings, car park, and shrub, hedge and tree covered areas.
There are club buildings alongside both greens. The top green clubhouse has a very old section (18th Century) with an assortment of later additions.
Put all this together and you have a huge maintenance task which is almost exclusively met by the efforts of club members, mainly those who are retired and playing in the veterans leagues!
The attractiveness of any Club must include high quality greens and these require attention on any daily basis in the season and a fair bit in the winter months. ….seeding, mowing, spiking, feeding, weeding, trimming, edging, watering, raking, …the list goes on. And the machinery needs servicing and occasionally replacing
Buildings need cleaning, painting and general maintenance, paths need clearing and resurfacing, other areas need pruning, cutting, and topping.
The maintenance team always needs more members so if you have a few hours to spare let us know.”
