Thomas Plume Library

Thomas Plume’s Library was founded in 1704 under the terms of the will of Dr Thomas Plume, Vicar of Greenwich and Archdeacon of Rochester, who had been born in Maldon in 1630. He bequeathed to his native town his collection of c.8,100 books and pamphlets, to be kept in the building which he had constructed from the ruins of the old St Peter’s Church in the centre of the town, on the corner of Market Hill and the High Street.

St Giles Lepar Hospital

An island in the middle of the Blackwater Estuary. One of the proposed sites for the Viking landing party that did battle with and defeated a Saxon army under Byrthnoth and his retainers at the Battle of Maldon 991.

The Promenade Park

The Promenade Park (The Prom) is an area of recreational parkland on the riverside and is the setting of the Maldon Museum in the Park which is housed in what used to be the Park Keeper's Lodge by the original main gates.
