Update on Grouping of Rural Alliance Churches.
Situation as of 21st September 2025
Union of Rural Alliance Churches:
As part of the Fife Presbytery Mission Plan it is proposed that the four churches of the Rural Alliance: Kingsbarns, Kilrenny, Largoward and Carnbee will unite to become a single parish. Each of our churches is in Guardianship, except Carnbee which is currently linked with Pittenweem, and each Church is too small as an individual church to have a long-term future. Carnbee will dissolve the linkage they are currently in with Pittenweem and join the union. Ultimately, the united parish will link with the parish of Ceres, Kemback and Springfield. This will allow us to be part of a larger entity led by the Rev Jane Barron and there will also be provision for an Ordained Local Minister within the new setup. The Basis of Union document has been agreed by the National Presbytery Mission Plan Implementation Group and Fife Presbytery and we have now had the congregational votes as detailed below:

This result, and agreement of the four congregations, was presented to Fife Presbytery on Saturday 20th September and approved at that meeting.
The Union of the four parishes will come into effect on 1st January 2026. Discussions will now take place on the practicalities of moving to a single Kirk Session and set of Office Bearers, as well as the proposed linkage with Ceres, Kemback & Springfield.
We look forward to joining with our sisters and brothers in Christ as we continue to serve His people in the new East Fife Rural Parish Church of Scotland: Carnbee, Kilrenny, Kingsbarns, Largoward.
