Hymn CH 438    

The head that once was crowned with thorns is crowned with glory now;

a royal diadem adorns the mighty Victor's brow.

 

The highest place that heaven affords is his, is his by right,

the King of kings, and Lord of lords, and heaven's eternal Light;

 

The joy of all who dwell above, the joy of all below

to whom he manifests his love, and grants his name to know.

 

To them the cross, with all its shame, with all its grace, is given;

their name an everlasting name, their joy the joy of heaven.

 

They suffer with their Lord below, they reign with him above,

their profit and their joy to know the mystery of his love.

 

The cross he bore is life and health, though shame and death to him,

his people's hope, his people's wealth, their everlasting theme.

he is risen from the dead, and he is Lord;

every knee shall bow, every tongue confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord.

he has shown us by his cross that he is love;

and he calls us all to live evermore

for Jesus Christ is life.

Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us,

set us free by the truth you now bring us.

          blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.

          Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy;

          send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light!

 

Lord, I come to your awesome presence,

from the shadows into your radiance;

by your blood I may enter your brightness,

search me, try me, consume all my darkness.

As we gaze on your kingly brightness,

so our faces display your likeness,

ever changing from glory to glory,

mirrored here may our lives tell your story.

when he had purged our stains, he took his seat above;

 

His kingdom cannot fail; he rules both earth and heaven;

the keys of death and hell are to our Jesus given:

 

He sits at God's right hand till all his foes submit,

and bow to his command, and fall before his feet:

 

Rejoice in glorious hope, for Christ, the Judge, shall come,

and take his servants up to their eternal home:

 

          We then shall hear the archangel's voice;
