The Prime Minister's announcement from today in summary

From next Saturday 4th July…

  • The 2 metre social distancing guidance will change to 1 metre +. Where possible you should try to keep to 2 metres.
  • Two households of any size may meet inside or outside. That does not mean they must always be the same two households. It will be possible for instance to meet one set of grandparents one weekend, and the others the following weekend. *They are not recommending meeting multiple households indoors because of risk of creating greater chains of transmission.
  • You can meet up to six people outside from several households.
  • Restaurants and pubs will be able to reopen with table-service. Customers contact details will be required should NHS Track & Trace need to contact you and to respond to any local outbreaks.
  • Hairdressers will also be able to reopen with PPE worn.
  • HotelsB&Bs, campsites will be able to reopen as long as shared facilities are kept clean and provided that no more than two households stay together.
  • Leisure facilities and tourist attractions will reopen if they can do so safely, such as playgrounds, outdoor gyms, museums, cinemas, libraries, galleries, theme parks, arcades, community centres will be able to reopen.
  • Recreation and sport will be allowed, but indoor facilities, including changing rooms and courts, will remain closed and people should only play close contact team sports with members of their household.

  • Places of worship will be able to resume for prayers and services, including weddings of a maximum of 30 people, all subject to social distancing.
  • Nightclubs, soft-play areas, indoor gyms, swimming pools, bowling alleys, water parks and spas will have to remain closed for the time being but the Government is continuing to look at when it will be safe for these to reopen.

It’s important to stay alert, control the virus and save lives.

  • Keep washing your hands
  • Stay 2 metres apart wherever feasible, and mitigating the risks at 1 metre where not
  • Avoid public transport when possible and wear a mask when not
  • Get tested immediately if you have symptoms and self-isolate if instructed by NHS Test and Trace.

Central Government will publish COVID-secure guidelines for every sector that is re-opening so keep an eye on GOV.UK for fuller details.

We will share updates about any impact on our services in due course. Until this time, please follow existing guidance.
