Our story on The Ruby, Braintree
These are obviously tough times for businesses, but it's amazing to hear positive stories from business owners like Mohim at The Ruby Braintree.
They have provided over 100 free meals to NHS staff at Broomfield Hospital and their elderly and vulnerable customers.
They also opened up their premises for a weekend, serving free meals to NHS staff and those who are vulnerable in our community.
And they haven't stopped there – they have now launched a ‘sponsor a meal’ campaign on how you can help support the delivery of meals to even more people in the community. Here’s their fundraising page.
As they’ve said: “The main thing in all this is the intention of the heart, showing people the community cares.”
They have made a real meaningful difference and we want to say to everyone at The Ruby - you are true local HEROES and a huge and well-deserved THANK YOU.
Our story on The Booking Hall Cafe, Rayne
Once the lockdown started, many small businesses have had to find a way to survive.
Josh & Grace Meehan from The Booking Hall Cafe took a step further and wanted to use this time to give back and help in the battle against COVID-19.
In just three weeks, they’ve donated an amazing 450 pieces of cake to local care workers at the Braintree Community Hospital & Broomfield, and paramedics at the Braintree Ambulance station.
Many of their customers have donated money to help make the cakes, with donations still pouring in. They’ve just launched their new website www.thebookinghall.co.uk to deliver cake to their customers which has proved incredibly popular. We’ve heard that it’s brought so much joy to their customers during these tough times.
Josh & Grace Meehan, said: “We can’t provide ventilators or equipment, but we can try our hardest to put a smile on the face of someone who is working around the clock to keep us safe. We can all do our bit, no matter how small or big. We are all in this together, hand in hand, and if our role is to make someone's day a little brighter with calories then we are happy to do it.”
These guys have truly done something amazing for our community – they are heroes so please join us in saying a huge thank you to them.
Our story on the Holts of Witham
During this tough time, it is so heart-warming to hear how our community is supporting one another.
John and Sophie Kent, owners of Holts Of Witham butchers decided to sort out the freezer in their shop on their days off and ended up with a whole pallet of meat they didn’t know what to do with.
So, as they are huge animal fans anyway, they decided to donate it to Colchester Zoo for all their fantastic animals – they even took a box of bananas for the gorillas!
They’ve also been helping the community by offering a delivery service to the vulnerable and in need such as yeast, flour, toilet roll, pasta, fresh fruit and vegetables.
Sophie Kent, owner of Holts of Witham, said: “We are so proud of everything we have done in this difficult time, and we will not stop until everyone who needs help gets it! We couldn’t do it without our amazing staff who have gone above and beyond to help others!”
Join us in saying THANK YOU to these amazing heroes in our district!
