Since 2013 we have organised guided walks around Burnley and Padiham cemeteries to highlight the history of the cemeteries and the lives of some of those interred. The headstones themselves sometimes tell much about peoples’ lives or forgotten places and streets but research in local newspapers can reveal much more.
Please note that because of Covid restrictions walks have been suspended for the time being. When we are able to re-start the walks they will appear on the website in an events calendar.
We are also willing to organise walks for interested groups and organisations and, once restrictions are eased, you can contact us to arrange a suitable date and time.

We have produced the following self-guided walks leaflets which can be downloaded. These are:

Burnley Council has produced a leaflet for Cemetery Wood which lies to the west of Burnley Cemetery and Crematorium and part of the route is within the cemetery grounds. The leaflet is available from Cemetery Offices, Rossendale Road, Burnley and other Council offices and can be downloaded here.

You can also read more about the women in this complementary document
Please let us know if you have any comments about the leaflet walks and take care as you walk around the cemetery as some surfaces are uneven and can be slippy at times. It is advisable to wear appropriate footwear.
