Special Activities/ Projects for 2026

Listed below are the activities and/ or projects that Friends of Bottesford Beck plan to action in 2026. The activities listed are over and above our normal maintenance work and are considered for the safety, beautification, benefit of the flora & fauna or the public. In addition, we will pay special attention to issues that effect the free flow of the waters in the beck.

List of Special Activities:

  • Although the Environment Agency and NLC cut back the overgrown weeds and shrubs along the bridleway, the shrubs overhanging the beck which lie below the surface of the water are causing a buildup of debris restricting the flow of water at various location. To rectify the situation the group will cut back the offending shrubs. This will take place in the summer months of 2026 when the nesting season is over and the water temperature is warmer.

List of Proposed Projects:

  • Work started on a woodland Nature Trail on Wednesday 27th May 2026. The trail will consist of three distinct sections of wood which can be exited at various points or after completing the trail you can retun to the start via the Beck, medow path or by the Trail itself. Watch this space for more information and details of the opening date. The start of the Woodland Nature Trail is adjacent to Cafe' Natura at the Messingham end of the Beck. The Trail is aimed at getting young "Explorers" interested in nature in the hope that they will take an interest in caring for their local environment, and in turn protect the wildlife and its habitat in the area.
