The Chignals and Mashbury
Community Group
The group has been set up to encourage and enhance community activities and was an outcome of the parish Plan Launch morning when some villagers volunteered to start up the new group. The community group's aim is to bring our clubs together in joint ventures, to kick start other clubs and also to organise community events, sometimes fundraising for a particular cause. We do hope that you would like to support any future events and activities and come along when you can. To find out more about the group, pass on ideas or if you would like to join the group, please email chigandmashcommunitygroup@hotmail.com
Not every village organisation or area is represented so far. If your club or area is not represented and you would like to fill in the gap, please let us know!

A Chignal Community Meeting to explore ways of reducing our carbon footprints and help improve the bio-diversity of our countryside and gardens was held in the Village Hall on 2nd October. Topics discussed included Community renewable heating initiatives, individual actions that can make a difference, and gardens, gardeners and the community orchard. At the request of the organisers, Chignal Parish Council, members of the Chignals and Mashbury Community Group provided and served refreshments and delicious cakes. Well done to the community group bakers who produced cakes so good that some delegates asked for the recipes.
Community Group Village Picnic 5th September 2021
Our village picnic get together in early September was a great success.
We enjoyed beautiful weather and a well timed visit from the ice cream van.
Residents brought along their own chairs and picnic hampers for the occasion. Youngsters made full use of the playing field, gazebo and the new goalpost while mums and dads relaxed and chatted with friends and neighbours.
Many thanks to all those who came along and made it such a success. Photo: David Elwick
Lockdown Updates
Even during lockdown we were able to keep on working to help out in the villages. Many of us took walks around the village as our daily exercise during the pandemic and these seemed to turn into litter picking events with sacks full of cans, bottles and general litter being collected from verges and ditches on a fairly regular basis.
The daily walks were also a great opportunity for children to spot birds and wild animals. They were almost guaranteed to see muntjacs and birds of prey as well as creatures like swans. The new Parish Council 'Guide to the Footpaths and Bridleways of The Chignals', put together by councillor Jon Lewis, is an invaluable aid packed full of maps and illustrations of trees and where they are sited, areas and buildings of interest as well as fauna and flora identification guides.
Group members were also out and about delivering Welcome Packs to all the new residents, of which there are many now that the Persimmon homes are becoming occupied. We hope you all enjoy the contents of these packs.
