St Nicholas Church, Chignal Smealey

This is the beautiful Parish church St Nicholas serving the people of The Chignals with Mashbury. It is a hidden gem set in a peaceful churchyard and is well worth a visit.

The church building is mainly Tudor brickwork, with the exception of the North Aisle which is later.

The font is unusual, being also of Tudor brick and is believed to be one of only two in the country.  A detailed history is available in booklet form at the church (for which a contribution would be welcome).

The church is usually always open, but is now open on Sundays from 10am - 4 pm due to the pandemic, we will return to being always open, as soon as possible. The church is a haven of tranquility and well worth a visit.

The Parish has a parish priest, Revd. Diana Garfield and one pioneer minister, Revd. Sandra Sykes as well as a ministry team. This team is shared with two other parishes: Great Waltham with Ford End and Great and Little Leighs with Little Waltham.  The PCC secretary is Linda Nelson. Services are held in the church on the third Sunday of the month at 11am, and there are extra services at special times, such as Harvest, Remembrance, Christmas and Easter. Joint services are held with Great Waltham at 11am and Ford End at 9.30am on the other Sundays.
