The Frozen Frontier
Arthur Beale are holding a talk on 27th April 19:00 by Jane Maufe and David Scott Cowper titled The Frozen Frontier about navigating the most northerly route of the North West Passage. See the link for details. The book will be available on the night and from the website.
Polar Medals 2017
The Polar Medal has been awarded to eight people 'for outstanding achievement and service to the United Kingdom in the field of polar research'. The awards related to the Arctic were to Myrtle Simpson, Professor Peter Nienow, Professor Paul Smith and Stephen King.
Congratulations to all, especially to Myrtle, a long-standing member of the Arctic Club, and the Scottish Arctic Club.
Sir David Hempleman-Adams
We are delighted to report that David Hempleman-Adams has been awarded the KCVO, Knight Commander of the Victorian Order in the 2017 New Year's Honours List.

'Antarctica'
is a one-man show by artist Chris Dobrowolski, which charts the four months he spent exploring and working in the continent (short vid about it here). The show is really funny, with Chris talking in detail about survival, the very odd wildlife, and what it’s like to be amongst scenery so beautiful you can’t quite believe it. Although the 'other' pole - Arctic Club members might like to see it! Showing in Oxford, London, Sheffield, Salisbury, Havant, Chesterfield from 23 April.
Ski Mountaineering Symposium
11 to 13 November 2016. Location: Plas y Brenin, Capel Curig, Snowdonia
The 5th British Ski Mountaineering Symposium is being organised jointly by the Alpine Club, the Eagle Ski Club and the Alpine Ski Club, and will hopefully be of interest to many Arctic Club members. These not-for-profit symposia only take place once or twice a decade, and it promises a heady mix of inspirational and factual lectures, engaging skills and knowledge workshops and vital networking and social time.
