New Year's Honours List 2017
Dr David Kim Hempleman-Adams L.V.O, O.B.E. has been awarded the KCVO, Knight Commander of the Victorian Order for services to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Many congratulations to Sir David who is a member of the Arctic Club.
Sir David has recently stepped down after 10 years as a Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. He has been involved with the DofE Award since taking his Bronze Award at 14, going on to do his Silver and Gold Awards,
This was the catalyst that set him on the path to record breaking endeavours. The Duke of Edinburgh was a patron to many of his expeditions, including his historic solo balloon flight to the North Pole. He is the only person to have taken the award flag to the top of Everest, and to the North and South Poles. In 1998, he became the first person to complete the ‘Adventurers Grand Slam’, climbing the highest mountain on each continent and reaching both the North and South Geographical and Magnetic Poles. He also has 42 FAI world flying records.
Sir David Hempleman-Adams is an industrialist by profession, and an adventurer by preference. He lives in Box, Wiltshire and has three daughters who have all followed in his footsteps.
He is currently the High Sheriff of Wiltshire.

At the Arctic Club Dinner in December, David described his epic Polar Ocean Challenge, sailing both the North-East and North-West passages in a single summer in 2016.
