Arctic Expeditions & Grants
Arctic Club Award
The Arctic Club promotes and supports interesting, innovative and adventurous expeditions in the Arctic, particularly for young people.
Grants are awarded annually from the Arctic Club Award Fund, held within the Gino Watkins Memorial Fund (Charity 274471), and administered by the Committee of Fund Managers (which includes Arctic Club members). Applications for an award must be made to the Gino Watkins Memorial Fund by 31 January each year. Each year, one or more expeditions are given an Arctic Club Award and receive a combined grant from both the Gino Watkins Memorial Fund and the Arctic Club Award Fund. Grants to successful applicants are announced in March. Members of these expeditions are our guests at the next Arctic Club Dinner.
Gino Watkins Memorial Fund
The Gino Watkins Memorial Fund, under the joint trusteeship of the University of Cambridge and the Royal Geographical Society, gives grants towards expeditions that meet its objectives of guiding and inspiring enterprising young people towards scientific research and exploration in the polar regions.
See the GWMF Awards made since 1997.
See the Awards for 2018.
Applications for Grants should be made by 31 January each year.
Scottish Arctic Expedition Fund
The Scottish Arctic Expedition Fund (Charity SC046857) was established in 2016 by the Scottish Arctic Club to make awards to encourage young people to explore the Arctic. Awards may be given to individuals or to small groups.
Preference will be given to independently organised expeditions to the Arctic with people under 30 years of age with Scottish connections. Expeditions should have adventurous, scientific or artistic objectives. Consideration will also be given to applicants with Scottish connections undertaking their first Arctic expedition organised by others, for instance, by a school, youth group or charity. Applications should be made by 31 January each year.
Expedition members are invited to the next Gathering of the Scottish Arctic Club.
