Ribchester Local History Society: September/October

It is a sobering thought that nine years have come and gone since the Society took its first tentative steps. Since those early days the Society has grown, both in numbers and breadth of approach, so that we can look forward with confidence to the coming year.

Much of this success can be attributed to Roy Skilbeck, who first raised the idea of a History Society within the village and then worked tirelessly to see it blossom. Roy stepped down from the role of Chairman at the AGM in June since when the committee has considered how best to make use of his extensive knowledge of local history. So it is with great pleasure that we can now announce that Roy has accepted the offer of the committee to take on the role of President of the Society. We wish him well in his new role.

Each new year provides a fresh challenge in bringing the ‘best’ to Ribchester. We believe that our programme, detailed below, does just that with a varied and interesting mix of speakers.

The Ribchester Arms is about to undergo a major refurbishment and we are grateful to the Sports and Social club for extending an invitation to us to meet there during this time.

New Members are always welcome. The annual subscription remains at £10 for the year.
