Oldbury‑on‑Severn War Memorial Hall
A place built with love, remembrance and community spirit
The Oldbury‑on‑Severn War Memorial Hall stands proudly on Camp Road, at the heart of our picturesque village. It is far more than a building — it is a living tribute to the parishioners who gave their lives in the First World War, and later, the Second World War.
A Hall Built by the Community, for the Community
In the years following the First World War, villages across the country sought meaningful ways to honour their fallen. Oldbury‑on‑Severn chose to build a hall — a place where remembrance, community and togetherness could thrive.
The land was gifted by local people, fundraising events were organised, and many returning servicemen donated their “demob” money in memory of friends who never came home. With this extraordinary collective effort, the Memorial Hall opened its doors in October 1922, a moment of celebration and healing for the whole village.
A stone cross and wreath still sit proudly above the entrance, a permanent reminder of the Hall’s origins and purpose.
A Hall That Has Evolved With the Times
Over the decades, the Hall has been extended, improved and modernised — always with the needs of the community in mind. The most recent upgrade, completed in 2023, was supported by a successful Lottery grant, enabling improved access and enhanced facilities for all.
The Main Hall has been freshly redecorated, giving it a bright, welcoming feel. We now also have a fully licensed bar and marquee making the venue even more versatile for events and celebrations.
A Vibrant Hub of Village Life
Throughout its history, the Memorial Hall has hosted an extraordinary variety of activities — and that tradition continues today. Regular users include:
- Clubs and societies
- Dance and exercise classes
- Concerts and performances
- Theatre groups
- Community celebrations
- Private parties and family events
- Local and national commemorations
Whatever the occasion, the Hall offers a warm, flexible and cost‑effective space for gatherings of all kinds.
