Accessibility

Noak Bridge Parish Council is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Measures to support accessibility

Noak Bridge Parish Council takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of its website.

  • Include accessibility as part of our mission statement

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. The reason for elements not conforming to the WCAG 2.1 level AA standard are all associated with the platform on which the Noak Bridge Parish Council website is hosted (e-voice). Although we are able to amend some elements of the site, some sections are outside of our administrative privileges and some of these do not conform. We have contacted the providers of e-voice and are trying to resolve some of these issues. In addition, the content of this site is uploaded by volunteers, many of whom do not have significant (or any) web development experience. Although they have been trained to ensure the main content of the site is accessible, ocassional errors may occur. If you notice this has happened, please contact us via the feedback information provided below.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

Our site is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Mobile phones
  • PC and Mac computers
  • All known browsers
  • Screen readers

Technical specifications

Accessibility of our site relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of our site, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

  • The main menu does not have AccessKey functionality for all items (this is an issue with the HTML coding on e-voice - we have contacted them if amendments are possible)
  • The sub-menu items for the news items do not provide a 'previous' or 'next' option for those using keyboard only to navigate within these elements (this is also a HTML coding issue with the e-voice platform)
  • A small number of PDFs cannot be read by screen readers (these are limited to the annual financial returns of the Parish Council and are scanned versions of paper copies which must be completed and signed by hand - should anyone wish to know the content of these then please contact us and we can arrange for it to be presented to you in an alternative format)
  • The 'grey on white' used at the foot of the page to login, request membership of the site and search menu do not have sufficient difference in colour to assist those with visual impairments (these elements are controlled via the e-voice system and we are not able to adjust them. Membership to the site is not required and the login functionality is only required for our site administrators).

Assessment approach

The Noak Bridge Parish Council have assessed the accessibility of the site by self-evaluation using a number of online WCAG testing tools.
