The victory of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and Morena in the 2018 elections showed that for the first time in decades, there was hope for real positive change.
In the last six years, Mexico has made remarkable progress in social welfare, education, health, rights for women, indigenous people, and Afro-Mexicans, as well as infrastructure, economic stability, and recovery of national sovereignty over basic resources such as petroleum, gas, electric power, water supplies, and now lithium. It has played a leading role in the new progressive tide across Latin America. However, these achievements are little known in the UK, where media coverage is scant and, when present, invariably negative.
With the election of Claudia Sheinbaum as Mexico's new president in 2024, the country enters the second phase of this political transformation. Sheinbaum’s victory represents a continuation of the Fourth Transformation (4T) initiated by former president AMLO, reinforcing the commitment to deepen social and economic reforms. As Mexico's first female president, Sheinbaum's leadership signals a historic moment for gender equality and the sustained advancement of progressive policies that prioritize the welfare of marginalized communities and the assertion of national sovereignty.
We are proud to stand in solidarity with the Mexican people and with both President AMLO and President-elect Sheinbaum as champions of the Fourth Transformation. Our objectives remain: to produce regular information about their achievements, to counteract media disinformation, to oppose external interference in Mexico’s affairs, and to defend the country’s right to self-determination and sovereignty.
