Healthy Start is a national scheme to improve the health of low-income pregnant women and families with children under four years old on benefits and tax credits. The national Healthy Start scheme provides free vouchers each week to spend on milk, fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, and infant formula
Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic they have temporarily extended the validity of the Healthy Start vouchers by 4 weeks, giving you 12 weeks to use your entitlement however this may be reviewed.
This change will not reduce the number of vouchers you receive and registered retailers will continue to accept vouchers with extended expiry dates.

Get Tested at the Hippodrome
The rapid lateral flow COVID-19 testing site at the Utilita Arena (formerly NIA) has moved to the Hippodrome Theatre on Thorp Street, B5 4TB. The new site is open for testing seven days a week, between 8am and 6pm.
You need to bring with you valid Photo ID (driving licence, passport, student ID card) in order to get a test and you may be refused entry if you cannot show this when asked.
Please do not bring bags with you when you come for a test as all bags will be searched and this will increase the time it takes to get people into the venue for testing. If you have to bring a bag with you then please ensure it is a small bag.

To help with the vaccine roll out Hope Radio 87.9fm is back, again starting on the 12th February 2021 to help "Spread the truth not the virus " by encouraging their listeners to get vaccinated.
Why are we doing this ?
Having access to the Internet at the moment is great, but what if you don’t?
What if you’re 70yrs old and the only person you see is the postman No social media to keep you company no Zoom for you no mobile phone just the free view telly and the radio.
Lunch club has been cancelled and you can’t visit your mates as their care home is in lock down.
With just an FM radio our audience has the technology to get the latest advice, to get involved in local projects, to know how and where and when to get help.
Peni Whelan Station manager said "We are here because a digital divide exists and we will stay until we are no longer needed
In the meantime we are working as part of The COVID-19 Community Champion network to "Spread the truth not the Virus " to listeners and produce some great programming."
We are always on the lookout for more volunteer with or without experience , full training is provided
If you'd like to get involved and have some skills to offer please email brumcommunitymedia@gmail.com
It will be a great story to tell your grandkids when they ask what you did during the pandemic and it wont do your CV any harm either.

Birmingham City Council is encouraging everyone to go Fizz Free for February.
Fizzy drinks are the largest single source of sugar consumed by children aged 11 to 18.
With more time spent at home due to the pandemic we may be reaching for the fizzy drinks more often than usual.
By going Fizz Free for February, we can help reduce our intake and lower our reliance on the sweet stuff.
Fizz Free February was launched by Southwark Council in 2018
You can share your story and pledge to join the campaign by tweeting about your Fizz Free journey, using the hashtags #gofizzfree and #FizzFreeBrum. You can sign the pledge and join the campaign at any point during February,
There are now 56 pharmacies across Birmingham which offer lateral flow testing. As long as you have no symptoms of Coronavirus, you can access a COVID-19 lateral flow test by making an appointment at a community pharmacy in the area you live or work. The service is for everyone over the age of 11.
