Pontefract Park achieved the prestigious Green Flag status in July 2023. The judges described the park as "exciting and dynamic" and were impressed by the level of investment. They also praised the partnership between the Council and the Friends group. Proudly displaying the newly arrived Green Flag are representatives of Friends of Pontefract Park, Pontefract Councillors and Council Officers, the Park Ranger Team, and Pontefract Racecourse Company. The Green Flag will soon be flying from a flagpole at the main entrance.
The children's playground was completely renewed by the Council at the beginning of last year and opened in April. It has 30 items of play equipment suitable for all ages up to 14 years, and is undoubtedly the best play area in the district.
