Stockport Council has made the decision to set aside Sport England's objection to the planning request to remove the astroturf, import topsoil and return the astroturf pitch to a mowable surface. As this was the only objection raised, planning permission has now been granted. The Decision Notice can be viewed here, along with SMBC's Proposed Works Plan.
We have recently been sent the following anticipated schedule by Richard Booker, Play and Infrastructure Officer at SMBC:
Milestone |
Date |
Issue of design and contract information to framework contractor |
2nd October |
Return of tender and works methodology |
13th November |
Review of contract documents |
27th November |
Award of contract |
1st December |
Construction works |
March 2024 – May 2024 (TBC) |
He also states that the timetable for the construction works will be confirmed prior to the award of the contract.
Whilst FoPMOS are delighted that the next stage has been given the green light, we are still in regular contact with Stockport Council to raise their awareness of FoPMOS's own proposal for a Community Open Space and continue to lobby the council to include any additional work and funds in their plans for the site.
Members of the Committee will be attending the Heatons and Reddish Area Committee on Monday 16th October and will also meet with Richard Booker on 23 November.
We continue to engage with potential donors and partners and prepare to mobilise community action once the council's work is complete in Spring 2024 - watch this space!!
