Wild carrot

This is wild carrot (Daucus carota) also known as Queen Anne's Lace, photographed by Zoe Watson in the pond field 8/7/2016. Note the tiny red floret in the centre - the story goes that Queen Anne, consort of King James I, pricked her finger and stained some lace with a drop of blood. The root is, apparently, quite inedible so please don't try digging it up! In 2014 it was so abundant in the pond field that Kate Humble came to have a look. Later in the year the plant forms striking wineglass shaped seed heads.
