Friarwood Valley Gardens, as a public space, has its share of antisocial activity, which ranges from littering, dog fouling, damage to plants and trees and more serious arson. In 2024 -2025 14 of our park benches were damage by fire and had to be removed. Fortunately we were able to have them repaired in metal by DC Fabrications, the cost being met by the Council's insurance. The repaired benches have now been reinstalled and are probably better than the originals. Many of the benches were memorials and the plaques have been replaced. Our policy towards vandalism is to repair of replace as quickly as possible as there is evidence that the appearance of vandalism encourages more damage. We have regular maintenance and gardening sessions; our weekly session is Saturday afternoon from 1.30pm. Litter picking is the first Sunday of each month at 10.30am. We have the tools, but best to bring your own gardening gloves. New volunteers always welcome.
