One year on has anything changed

From dependence to empowerment

The long-term plan of the NHS stated – around July 2019

Shift from dependency to empowerment + healthy conversations.

We were empowered to modify the freedom of information questions

We were empowered when our friends at NIHR supported us

Together in research – Spring 2021

We were empowered when WHO quoted us as best practise

The WHO Calls for Radical Change in Global Mental Health

We were empowered when the GRC put us on their website

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/information-rights-register-of-tribunal-cases/first-tier-tribunal-general-reglatory-chamber-information-rights-appealstable

We were empowered when someone at the ICO wrote to us: -

“For your information, I am not disputing the importance of the matters you raise or the information, but I am confined to considering your complaints within the scope of the FOIA and the exemption at section 12.

There is no public interest test attached to section 12”

We were empowered with this information.

We email MPS to ask for a public interest test to be attached to section 12 of the Freedom of information act.

We were empowered when we looked at the "official" data + saw they also look at age – gender – ethnicity

Public bodies also seems to be unable to get complete data sets

The data shows what we know to be true: struggling with your mental health doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

Why not Diagnose Social Conditions Instead of Individual Symptoms?

 Was everyone empowered

NO

To quote a friend - empowerment = real choices

Still, we attended Mental health act tribunals that did not listen

Still, we could not move from paternalism to human rights

Still, people suffered within the Mental Health system

Still, Mental Health trusts do not answer our questions or understand the level of abuse within the current system

Still, people suffered with poor expensive housing.

Still, people suffered with the cruelty of the DWP.

Still, people suffered with poverty.

Still, our public money was not used for housing first policies.

Still, there were people begging on the streets.

Still, No universal basic income.

Still, No 3-day week

Still, no wars.

Still, profit not need

To quote Andy Burnham ...

If we wait for the "powers that be" we will wait forever?

so best if we just do it ourselves?
