Easter Egg Hunt

Our first Easter Egg Hunt took place on the same day as Storm Katie descended, causing chaos around the UK. Amazingly, here in Kew, the weather cleared up just in time and the sun actually came out. We had around 35 children participate throughout the morning with their parents, all winning eggs that were kindly donated by Sutcliffe Play, the company that supplied and installed the new playground equipment. Many thanks to Katy Robins, who organised this event and to several other Friends who provided vital help in preparing and running the activity.  Here are a couple of pix from the day, plus a video from our Instagram account. (All photographs of children taken in accordance with our Child Protection Policy.)

Exciting New Playground Equipment
The Friends of North Sheen Recreation Ground are delighted to have worked with Richmond Council on the renovation of the playgrounds in the Rec. Improved playground equipment was one of the key items identified by our research with users of the Rec. We shared this finding with Richmond Council and helped them conduct a study with children and parents that was used to inform the playground re-design. The re-design kept the items that were popular with users (with some up-grades where necessary) and added in new equipment.

The new equipment includes items that are aimed at groups previously not catered for by the playground, including all-ability items that can be used by children in wheelchairs, items for under-3s and more challenging items for older children (for example the zip-wire).

Come and try out the new equipment for yourself! Check out all the pix of the new equipment, as well as some of what we've kept.

Our chair, Sue, researched local World War One heroes and drew up this map

Our chair, Sue, spent many hours at the National Archives, researching the local heroes who fought in WW1 and gave their lives. The red dots show where they came from. We hope eventually to make this map interactive.

An entrant at our dog show

We organise occasional dog shows and hope to make these more frequent. Here is an enthusiastic entrant at one of the recent events.

Sometimes we catch the most beautiful sunsets at North Sheen Recreation Ground. The colours are complemented by the white mist in the foreground here.
