This walk will take less than 40 minutes if you drive to Burton End.
Take the road to Takeley from The Crown, and then first right towards Tye Green.
Pass through the hamlet of Tye Green, and eventually you will pass The Ash on your left.
After the ‘Burton End’ village sign, the first cottage on the right is Four Winds. Park somewhere along this stretch of road without impeding private driveways.
The fingerpost on the right points to the public footpath, between Four Winds and Evergreen.
Take the signed footpath and turn left alongside the hedge.
Cross the ditch and turn right along the field edge.
When you reach Turners Spring Nature Reserve follow either the courtesy path through the reserve or bear right after about 50 metres and follow the footpath around the edge of the reserve. Both routes end up at the same place at the far side of the woodland part of the reserve.
Go through the gate and keep left along the field path.
Then bear right off the waymarked footpath onto the courtesy path and into another wooded area.
Follow this path that winds through the woods running roughly parallel to the stream (The Bourne) and includes a bridge. Take care if the slopes are muddy and where you step across a rivulet just before you leave the Reserve.
You then turn right and follow the footpath with the hedge on your right.
Go round a left then right bend and after 40 metres follow the waymark ahead across a bridge and continue with the hedge on your right.
After a (waymarked) right bend, then a left bend, continue for 50 metres and look out for a white post on your right. Find the nearby gap which takes you onto the other side of the hedge.
Continue along the path with the hedge on your left until you reach your starting point at Burton End.
