The directions for this walk of about 1 hour 15 minutes start at `The Crown'. On leaving the pub you walk down Hall Road opposite towards Takeley, taking the footpath on the right-hand side of the road, and crossing the road carefully when the footpath crosses.
About 60 metres beyond the bridge over the brook, take the bridleway on the left, through Daisy May's Farm. The path bears slightly to the left.
If you decide that the mud through the next section is not too bad to put you off, you should be OK for the rest of the walk.
Continue on up the hill until you reach the haulage road which leads to the sand quarry. Cross over with care, and after about 30 metres turn left over the bridge and then immediately right.
The path now continues with the ditch and hedge on your right and the golf course on your left. After about 5 minutes turn right following the sign to the 6th Tee and immediately left to leave the golf course directly behind you. The waymarks here are hidden in the hedge, but the path soon opens out.
Continue on with the hedge on your left for about ten minutes, beyond the end of the golf course. About 40 metres past a solitary oak, take the footpath to the left. After a short distance, cross the footbridge ahead, up the steps, and immediately turn left.
Follow this path with a few wiggles for about 25 minutes, first in the open, then through the edge of a plantation and alongside the golf course and the driving range (where usually in June you can find good numbers of bee orchids on the right hand side edge and ditch), until you reach the haulage road again.
Cross over with great care and take the path down the steps,- this is Catts Lane -go across the footbridge and up the other side until you reach the steps up to the main road. Turn left and follow the road back to ‘The Crown’.
