This walk is quite a short one being some 2½ miles long, and taking rather less than an hour. Although it is very close to Elsenham, it lies almost entirely in the Parish of Henham.
Start from the Railway Station and go northwards along Old Mead Road until you have passed the warehouse on your right.
Take the narrow path over a footbridge and follow this route gently uphill.
Newcomers to the area may like to know that just on the other side of. the hedge, alongside this path for ¾ mile until it reaches the road, there once ran the railway line from Elsenham to Thaxted, the so-called `Gin and Toffee line' which enjoyed its glory days in the first half of the last century and fell victim to economies in the early 1950s even before Dr Beeching.
About half-way up there are usually signs of badger activity and often large holes in the path so watch your step.
On reaching the Mill Road turn left and follow the road for ¼ mile or so, until you reach the outskirts of Henham.
(If you have the time and energy to spare go into Henham and look around, it is a beautiful and well cared for village.)
Take the footpath which runs alongside the first house on the left, with a field on the right.
It eventually merges into Old Mead Lane, a tarmac road with an interesting variety of dwellings on either side, until you find yourself back on Old Mead Road by the letter box.
Turn left here and follow the road back to the Station.
