Barnards Farm Proposed Gypsy Site 1993. This is a report written for level 2 of the Local Policy Degree. For copyright reasons the appendices in the version submitted for marking have been excluded. It covers the history of a proposal to develop a gypsy site in the parish, and includes the origin of the proposal, where the initiative originated and the motive behind it. The extent of the influence of local government officers is shown, also the part party politics has to play and the degree of success achieved by lobbying by parish councils and members of the public. The annotations on the report were made by the marker.
Benson nee Ackerley. The funeral of Sarah Benson, widow of Frederick Benson, reported in the Chelmsford Chronicle of Friday 4th. June 1937. Before arriving to farm in East Hanningfield, the Bensons had been farming in Cheshire, where they were both born.
Coulde Dennis Housing. This is a study written for level 3 of the Local Policy degree. It's purpose was to investigate the impact of a policy on a community. If you are only interested in the history of how the estate came to be built you might want to miss the section "Locality? Rural Community?", which discusses theory of community and locality. Pages 12-14, which were housing plans, have been omitted for reasons of copyright.
Duckworth nee Wade. The Wades receive good news from Australia, 1942.
East Hanningfield Landscape Study. This study was undertaken as an independent study at level 3 of the Local Policy degree course. It was submitted in January 1997. At the time the author only had access to a word processor, so the illustrations had to be glued in. The reproduction of the photographs is nowhere near as good as can be achieved with modern equipment. It is has not been updated to take into account books and studies that have appeared in the last 28 years.
Fowler - Rev. James T. Fowler. An announcement of the death of Canon Fowler, with details about the circumstances of his death abroad and his funeral and memorial service, in the Chelmsford Chronicle of Friday 20 May, 1892.
Geffrey Close Housing Scheme. How East Hanningfield nearly didn't achieve its scheme of affordable housing for local people. The first part of this history was given as a talk to a gathering of parish councils at the Parish Council Housing Seminar, Great Dunmow, 29th April, 2004. It was called, "Affordable Housing for Local People in East Hanningfield-What could possibly go wrong?". The second part is extracts from Parish Council reports in East Hanningfield News carrying on from June 2004 and continuing to 2007 and is titled, "What else could possibly go wrong?".
Kemble - Captain Thomas S.B. Kemble. Notice of the death of Capt. Kemble in Malaya, published in the Essex Newsman of Saturday 10 October 1908, with an outline of his military career.
Little Claydons Farm-An account of the fatal explosion that took place there in 1866, the Inquest that followed, and how the survivors fared afterwards.
Ost - Canon Audley Alfred Ost. An obituary published in the Chelmsford Chronicle on Friday 24 February 1939.
Parsons - Emily Winifred Parsons nee Picking. An obituary published in the Cambridge Evening News on Tuesday 8th. July, 1980. Emily grew up in East Hanningfield and was the eldest daughter of Harry and Emily Picking who were master and mistress at the village school.
Rayner - John Rayner. Notice of death and description of his funeral from the Chelmsford Chronicle 6th. February, 1931.
Sacre - Canon Arthur Sacre. Some biographical detail about Rev. Sacre who came to East Hanningfield as a Rector in 1892. He was thirty years old. His previous posts had been as Curate, so this was a step up for him.
The Men Named on the East Hanningfield War Memorial. A collection of biographies of those lost in the Great War and whose names appear on the War Memorial beside All Saints' Church, compiled by Sue Edward.
