Drymen, or Druiminn from the Scottish Gaelic, is located on the east side of Loch Lomond within the Stirling Council authority area. Indeed, Drymen is known as the, 'Gateway to East Loch Lomond'.
The history of Drymen is long and varied. The Roman IX Legion, the Graham, Drummond and Buchanan Clans, Rob Roy MacGregor and the cattle drovers, the oldest licenced Inn in Scotland, and even Rudolph Hess have all featured in the history of Drymen.
Drymen History Society, also known as Drymen and District Local History Society, was founded on the 07th October 1982, and was one of the first history and heritage societies in the area. With Drymen being so very rich in history, it's not surprising that a group of like-minded enthusiasts came together to form our society.
Today, our society is run by a group of equally passionate enthusiasts. Our aim is to keep the history of Drymen alive for future generations to learn about and enjoy. Sometimes, we are asked for information about some of the people who lived or worked in Drymen, by people who are researching their family tree. Whilst we don't know all of the answers, we do our best to find out what we can.
