After a haitus of several years (20?), a jamboree event attracted 17 teams on Saturday 26th November. It was kindly hosted by Gateway School, who also provided the refreshments.
The start was delayed because yours truly had remembered everything except the pairing software, which was sitting on my home desktop computer! However, it was emailed to me and we could begin.
The players were very enthusiatic (i.e. noisy!), but many had not played competitive chess before. It was nice to see players from schools who are not normally 'on the radar' of Bucks Youth Chess and performing well. I hope some of these players will be interested in putting themselves forward for the Bucks Under 9 and Under 11 teams.
The Beacon 'A' team were very strong and favourites, but although they scored a very impressive 16/18 points, they didn't run away from the rest of the field - 2nd placed Gateway 'A' were only 1.5 points behind.
I think the event went well - maybe next year we should copy the EPSCA model and have an all day event with individual teams facing each other - I shall canvass opinion.
