A great chance to share your thoughts with councillors and officers as to how we can shape Butter Hill as a safe and desirable place to live in the 21st Century.
Drop - In Session 9 Nov
Councillors Updates
Marian confirmed the sessions that each of the councillors had attended the consultation below is an overview of what they had observed.
Marian confirmed the consultation had started and it finishes on 13th December, 2000 letter were sent out to residents, there’s an online survey which people can complete. It was also decided to have a drop-in session. The session began at 11am and finished at 7pm and there will be a further drop-in session for a few hours on a Saturday.
Marian had attended the morning session and there were about 5 people. It was an opportunity to give views on the area in general and you will remember we said this is a blank canvas so it’s a chance to for you talk about anything you wanted to say.
Marian - We had a couple of residents that wanted to talk about flooding because the road they lived in was prone to flooding. And 1 resident was very concerned because we have just had COP26 and he was very concerned about climate change and the River Wandle and how the levels could rise and he was saying that if we don’t act now that in 10 years’ time the Wandle could overflow. So, we had a really good discussion on that and as a result of that Barry, Sunita and I are going to do a site visit with those residents and some officers It was made clear there are no proposals, no pre-conceived ideas, no set views. And what the officers will do once all the views have been collated, they will then try and come up with some proposals and then at that point those proposals will go out for further consultation.
At the moment is just gathering people’s views. There were some prompts and I think someone queried those prompts
Barry attended 12-30 – 2pm
There were two residents that turned up and they were from Strawberry Lane.
And they were concerned about the traffic going to their roads, their road being used as a rat-run. It was interesting they too had problems of drivers mounting pavements, stand up arguments and the same sort of problems that we have on Butter Hill. And the main outcome was looking at ways to reduce traffic, looking at ways to reduce traffic speed and improving street lighting on certain bits.
A couple of points on Mill Lane that officers will look at where there are cobbles and it slopes quite steeply so it is difficult to walk on so officers were going to check out why that was the case.
I suppose it just highlights we all have problems with traffic and excess speeds and we need to work out ways to manage it and possibly ideas will come out of this consultation.
Sunita attended the evening session
I did some maths over the day 20 people 22 including councillors I count myself as a resident.
15 from Butter Hill, 1 from Manor Road, 2 from Strawberry Lane,1 Denmark Road
People are concerned about the volume of traffic and more of a concern is during rush hour. People were open with their views and thoughts of what could happen with the area and as the thing is over a long period of time, taking views, opinions and then working up proposals based upon that and this is the first consultation we will have many more to come.
There will be a Saturday or Evening Session for those who were not able to attend this Daytime event.
