In response to a recent accusation, BCN hereby declare that the design of the current logo was not taken from any known sources. The design was genuinely created with no intention of copying any existing material.

It has been purely coincidental that the China flag in the corner of the Union Jack is an existing design belonging to someone else.  In the light of the heritage behind the designers, it comes as no surprise that the idea exists elsewhere.  Face it, it doesn't take a genius to come up with a design like that.  For example there is an image which is the US flag merging with the UK flag.  That itself says it's not a unique idea.  Just input the search term "UK flag" and it comes up!

BCN have offered sincere regrets about this innocent incident to the unnamed party and will be re-designing the logo.  This is not an acknowledgement of any fault whatsoever.

If anyone has anything to say on the matter, get the facts straight and contact BCN directly.

The officlal term for a flag in the top left hand corner of another flag is a canton flag. It is used to denote a relationship between two countries. It is used widely in many flags of the world.

For a British Born Chinese theme, it would not be unusual to come up with such an idea to have the UK flag with the China flag in that corner in this way. For any British Born Chinese to think of a design, it is highly likely that two people could come up with similar designs.

There are only a limited number of permutations. It could have been a HK flag in the corner. It might have been an England flag instead of the UK flag. That's about it. Unless someone has copyright on this design, no one can claim against anyone.

If there is no copyright involved, there is no duty to apologise or change the design.
