ENERGY COMPANIES

Ecotricity
Unicorn House, Russell Street, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 3AX

About us: "The World’s first green electricity company: Green Electricity didn't exist in the world back in 1996. When we offered it for the first time, we became not just Britain’s but the world’s first Green Electricity company – and we kick-started the now global Green Electricity movement. Our mission was and remains to change the way electricity is made and used in Britain. We chose this focus because conventional electricity is responsible for 30% of Britain’s carbon emissions – it’s our biggest single source as a nation – and therefore the biggest single thing we can change… Nobody will spend more of your energy bill building new sources of green energy… We price match the standard tariffs of the 'big 6' energy suppliers." See http://www.ecotricity.co.uk/about-ecotricity/our-eco-credentials.

Green awards and accreditations: "The Eco-Management and Audit scheme (EMAS) is the gold standard for environmental management of business. We’re really pleased to have reached this standard, we’ve joined an elite group one of only 58 organisations in theUKand we’re the only energy company that has it across its whole operation - the only one in the world in fact."

TTK comment: "Greentomatoenergy installed a 1.7KW photovoltaic system on my house in Kingston in August 2011.  I obtainedquotations from several different companies but theirs stood out.  As well as being reasonably priced, I liked their non-pushy attitude, that their surveyor arrived by bicycle and their willingness to answer numerous questions.  When I had decided to go ahead with them they were able to act quickly.  A project manager stayed with the team all day and they completed the installation in one day despite torrential rain and lightning at times.  All the team were very friendly and efficient.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them." "We were very impressed with their knowledge and expertise when two staff members came to speak at a TTK energy group event in December 2012 - they really understood and explained  well the science underpinning energy-efficiency measures, as well as the challenges and potential problems of retrofitting."

Customer comment: "Homezone supports local charities doing green work. They got three professinal quotes for the installation of our solar panels, they were courteous and clean and I cant say it was difficult to get it all fixed in, as most of the work is in the roof space. Kingston and Richmond Energy Advice Network (KREAN)

About us: The Smart Communities team based at Kingston University have helped to set up the Kingston and Richmond Energy Advice Network (KREAN). KREAN is made up of local people who have been thinking about, researching and acting on energy and other sustainability issues for a number of years. They have learned through their own experiences and investigations. Crucially, since KREAN advisors have no commercial connections, they are not interested in pointing you in a particular direction, only in offering you the best, impartial advice and guidance.

Contact: send your query to krenergyadvicenetwork@gmail.com, and then members of the network will get back to you. Depending on the issue, the help might be by email, by telephone or possibly even by demonstration of an existing installation or way of doing something.
