In 1878, Leeds Town Council had resolved to create two public parks, one at Hunslet and one at Woodhouse Ridge. It had to seek powers from Parliament to do this and West Yorkshire Archive Service still has some of the original documents.

This was not for the full extent of the Ridge that we enjoy today, it was the southern part, extending from Ridge Road to a point about half way along, you can reference the beck crossing of Meanwood Road to locate the North Western boundary, roughly nowadays above the cricket field.
