THE LITTLE POTTING CLUB
Is a free children's gardening and nature club within Whitehall Park.
We plant seeds, plants, look after flowers and the park.
We cook our own produce during the summer period.
A gardening club for children of all ages.
We meet on Saturdays in the Rose Garden 1pm - 2pm although families stay until 3pm as we have a drink and a snack afterwards. We tend to our own gardening beds, wildlife pond, bug hotel and other areas we created to attract wildlife. We run all year round and this gives children a chance to experience the garden through all seasons. We often explore nature and take part in nature craft activities when gardening is quieter during the winter months.
We are proud to have taken part in several conservation projects which we access annually as a part of our sessions.
As we run all year it is advised to dress for the weather and for mud!
We welcome all to our sessions which are free of charge. We have a mobility entrance with wheel chair accessible veg beds, wheel chair accessible potting table and picnic benches. Families kindly donate fruit, biscuits, tea, milk or coffee towards snack time. We have use of the Rose Garden cabin where there is central heating, a toilet and a small kitchen. During harvest season we sometimes cook our own grown produce in the cabin.
We are members of the RHS School Gardening Campaign where we achieved our level 5.
We achieved our Hedgehog Street award where we have worked towards creating spaces for wildlife, monitoring wildlife within the park and gardening alongside wildlife.
We achieved the Community Volunteers award for the Environment category 2024.
