A group set up to celebrate the life and times of Sir Robert Peel, Member of Parliament for Tamworth, Staffs, who became Prime Minister twice, started our Metropolitan Police service, and who lived with his family at nearby Drayton Manor, which is now a theme park.

We run a museum of Peel and Police memorabilia at Middleton Hall, Tamworth, attend outside groups to give talks explaining who Sir Robert Peel was, how he came to be at Drayton Manor and then Parliament, then why he  found it necessary to set up a Police service, firstly in London and then nationally. Our speaker will explain how Peel  cleverly achieved his aim against considerable opposition, then follows up with a quick look at how the Police Service has evolved since that time, including recruitment of the first Policewomen.

Our aim is 'To help our elders to remember, and the young to understand.'

Please note that an old website, giving the address 'Norvisda', is now defunct and has no connection whatever with the Peel Society.
