Local Policy Statement for Waverley

Local government should follow procedures that are inclusive, transparent and accountable to local communities. That way, democracy flourishes.

To help bring this about we believe in:

  • carrying out regular listening exercises on key local issues
  • developing open forums in Waverley that report directly to Town Council and Borough Council meetings and to local representatives on Surrey County Council
  • actively encouraging those traditionally marginalised in politics - women, young people, ethnic minorities, people on low incomes or benefits and those with disabilities – to become actively involved in decision-making.

We believe in proportional representation for local government so that all voices are heard – and not just those of one political party.  In the absence of a fair voting system for local government, we would like all progressive forces in our locality to work together to ensure that a progressive voice is heard in local government.  We believe that that all those on the progressive left in council chambers across Waverley and across Surrey – Greens, Labour, Liberal Democrats and those with no party affiliation should work together to support our vision of a good society and a more equal, democratic and sustainable future for local residents.
