Circular Walk Project

Circular walk new surface

Mallaig Community Council worked with The Highland Council to initially upgrade a section of the popular walk in Mallaig, known as 'the Circular Walk'. This first section was from East Bay to the access to the housing at Kings Way. Work was undertaken by Knoydart Construction, and supervised by The Highland Council as this section is part of the Core Path Network.

Since then, the Community Council has worked along with the Road to The Isles Facilities Group to access funds to redevelop the remainder of the path, with funding from Highland Council's Community Regeneration Fund, with an award of £34,618.40. Match funding of  £11,100 is being granted by Cargill / Ewos Community Fund, The Mackintosh Foundation, Highland Council (Core path maintenance), Scottish Sea Farms, and Mowi Scotland, as well as from members of the community who have donated on the just giving page. This remains open if you would like to make a contribution. Your support is very much appreciated.

handrail on Circular Walk from King's Way to main path with post caps
Since these works were completed, we have also been able to install a handrail on the steep section from King's Way to the main path with support from the Highland Council. There is still one final section to complete, and we are looking at options for doing this. The final section is the trickiest, not least because it passes through croft land, but is also very narrow in places so it might take a bit longer to achieve this. Please give us your views on this section be completing the survey .
