Coach Trip to the Henry Moore Sculpture Garden at Perry Green

Thursday 15 September 2016

Thursday Coach Trip

Henry Moore, bom in 1898, son of a miner became the most important and successful artist of the 20th century. During WW2, he and his wife left their bomb damaged house in London and moved to Hoglands, a farmhouse, in Perry Green near Much Hadham in Hertfordshire. In 1977 he used his wealth to set up the Foundation, an arts charity, to promote sculpture in general and his own work in particular. He worked in wood and stone, then bronze, producing semi-abstract monumental sculptures which became popular worldwide.

The sculpture garden at Perry Green covering 40 acres and his home and archives as well as a cafe, shop and visitor centre are open to the public. These facilities have been extensively improved during 2015 and we have chosen a late summer visit to ensure that everything is running satisfactorily. A smaller coach than normal will be necessary to negotiate the narrow lanes approaching Perry Green.

The cost includes the cost of the coach and entrance fees. A group guided tour of the sculpture garden is free.

PLEASE NOTE February meeting - Thursday 11th - Melanie Veasey from the Henry Moore Foundation will be giving us a talk.
