Oldbury on Severn Memorial Hall

Equality & Diversity Policy

Version 1 — October 2020

  1. Introduction

Oldbury on Severn Memorial Hall is committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive and respectful environment for all members of our community.  We aim to create a positive space where everyone can participate safely, confidently and without discrimination.

This policy reaffirms our commitment to equality, fairness and dignity for all hirers, volunteers and visitors. We oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, ethnic origin, colour, nationality, national origin, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

  1. Our Commitment

We aim to ensure that all hirers and volunteers have equal opportunity and that our organisation reflects the diversity of the community we serve.

We will treat everyone fairly and with respect and we will encourage volunteers to develop their skills and contribute their unique strengths.

Selection for the Executive Management Committee (EMC), Management Committee (MC) or any volunteer role will be based solely on aptitude, ability and suitability.

We are committed to:

  • Recognising and valuing individual differences and contributions.
  • Promoting dignity and respect for all.
  • Not tolerating intimidation, bullying or harassment, and declining hire requests from individuals or groups who breach this policy.
  • Providing training opportunities for volunteers where appropriate.
  • Encouraging an inclusive culture across our community.
  • Supporting anyone who feels they have experienced discrimination to raise their concerns.
  • Ensuring that everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Regularly reviewing our practices and procedures to maintain fairness and compliance with legislation.

We seek to promote diversity and inclusion while meeting our responsibilities under current equality legislation.

  1. Responsibilities of the Community

All hirers, volunteers and event attendees share responsibility for helping us uphold this policy.
Everyone must support equality, diversity and inclusion, and avoid any form of unlawful discrimination.

Acts of discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation are considered unacceptable. Hirers who permit or engage in such behaviour may be refused future access to the Hall.

  1. Grievances

Anyone who believes they have been unlawfully discriminated against may raise their concerns with:

  • EMC Chair: Chris Jennings — cjlj@hotmail.com
  • Any member of the EMC
