Little Yeldham Recreation Ground

The Parish Council's Safeguarding Policy for the users of the Recreation Ground can be found here.

Our swings and slide have stood the test of time and have provided good service throughout the years, however we are now embarking on a project to improve the play equipment available to our children.

In July 2021 the Parish Council agreed that improving the equipment on the Little Yeldham Recreation Ground should be considered and a project was initiated to assess the feasibility and the costs involved.

After much research and due consideration of the findings, the Parish Council decided to proceed and try to make this a reality for the village with the hope of encouraging all children back to play.

The Parish Council recognises that our Recreation Ground is a lovely green space in the heart of the village and brand new equipment and better access, could encourage more usage and increased interaction throughout the community.

The costs of the additional play equipment together with the access and seating improvements were estimated in the region of £56,000 and as the project needed to be self-funding, the Parish Council embarked on a programme of fundraising events in the village together with applications to the National Lottery and other grant providers for funding.

Additionally, a JustGiving page and an Easyfundraising page were set up to help with the fund raising effort. JustGiving is a recognised leader for fund raising and Easyfundraising provides the platform for retailers to make a donation on your behalf each time you make an online purchase with them.

On 23rd February 2023, the Parish Council announced that it had secured funding of £58,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund which together with grants received from the Bruce Wake Trust and the East of England Co-op Community Cares Fund, Village fundraising events and donations from very generous supporters, meant sufficient funds had been raised to carry out the improvements as planned. The press release can be read here.

Work now starts on delivering the project and it is expected that the planned improvements will be completed in late 2023.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported the project.

However, the effort does not stop here as funds are still required to maintain and enhance the facilities in the longer term.

The Village Spring Fayre was held on Saturday 25th March and future events are a Summer Fun Day on 19th August 2023 and a Christmas Bazaar on 2nd December 2023. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all at these events.

Councillor Mary Pearce is heading up this exciting change in our village and you can contact her at cllr.mpearce.ly.tjc.o.pc@gmail.com if you have questions or would like to volunteer to help.
