"Art, truth and knowledge: inside and outside the frame"
Wednesday 19 June 2013
19:00 to 21:00
Stuart Devall will give this talk, and he writes: "Many philosophers, from Plato to Gilbert Ryle and beyond, have claimed that truth and knowledge are necessarily absent or wholly irrelevant to the success of different forms of art. While I concede this is often so, in many cases our understanding and appreciation of different works is wholly dependent on truth and reality and 'superficial' observations - and profound embodied truths - can make works more convincing and illuminate our understanding of life."
