Claire Khaw responds to earlier Kingston Philosophy Café discussions on the "intellectual blind alley" of consciousness by claiming that consciousness is the same as self-consciousness, which leads inevitably to the wish to maximise pleasure and minimise pain through the use of reason, a wiser and more useful area for philosophers to explore.
