18:30 to 21:00
A Kingston Peace Council/CND event www.kpc.gn.apc.org
The concept of Human Security includes economic security and security from natural disasters as well as classic conflicts. It is concerned with global interdependence and the security of individuals and communities rather than states and borders. Military activity may be necessary but not in the usually accepted way.
Mary Kaldor is Professor and Co-director of LSE Global Governance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her many publications include Global Civil Society: an answer to war and (jointly with Shannon D Beebe) The Ultimate Weapon is No Weapon: human security and the new rules of war and peace.
