Eduardo Mendieta "Can we need what we never had?" (on continental and other philosophies and the global order/disorder)

Professor Mendieta is a professor of philosophy at the State University of New York, at Stony Brook. He undertook his doctoral research into the Frankfurt School of Philosophy at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, where he worked with Jurgen Habermas, and followed this up with studies at the University of San Francisco, where he became Assistant Professor of Philosophy. During the spring of 2009 he will be a resident fellow at Durham University's Centre for Advanced Study. His most recent book is Global Fragments  in which he applies an interdisciplinary  approach - including continental, Afro-American and Latin American philosophy - to understanding "one of the most fundamental experiences of globalization: the mega-urbanization of humanity". Professor Mendieta will ilustrate his theme drawing on this work.
