Jim Al-Khalili: "Written in the Stars: how to live happily in a deterministic universe"

Monday 28 October 2013
18:10 to 20:30

What does modern physics say about determinism and chance?  Is our future preordained? Debate continues between neuroscientists and philosophers on the existence, or not, of free will; and many people around the world still believe their fate is somehow linked to the movements of the stars and the planets.

In this lecture, distinguished physicist, author, broadcaster and "new, new atheist", Professor Jim Al-Khalili,  takes us on a whistle-stop tour of Einsteinian relativity, quantum indeterminacy and asks whether, according to  our current understanding of the nature of time, the future is  knowable?
